Outset QZ10 Stainless-Steel Pizza Peel with Rosewood Handle Review

Outset QZ10 Stainless-Steel Pizza Peel with Rosewood HandleI use it to take all sorts of stuff out of my little electric oven as well as out of the big gas oven. It's really big and really handy....and it's so sturdy, you could probably lengthen the handle and shovel snow with it --- although I wouldn't do that. We don't have much snow in South Texas.

Product Description:
Serve up restaurant-style pizza in the comfort of home with this handy pizza peel. Constructed of gleaming stainless steel with a smooth, stick-free surface, the unit's oversized spatula easily transfers hot pizzas from the pan to the cutting board, and then from the board to a serving platter, heat rack, or plate--no more accidentally dumping pieces onto the countertop or floor with a woefully inadequate fork or mini spatula. Even more, the peel's handsome rosewood handle keeps hands and fingers away from bubbling cheeses and hot sauces, and it folds down for convenient storage between uses. A great addition to family pizza nights, the unit also makes a foolproof way to serve biscuits, quesadillas, and other foods while hosting friends and guests. The pizza peel sports the Outset mark of quality and measures approximately 6 by 8 by 3 inches.

Minden Grills 94922-89460-1 Deluxe Ceramic Pizza Stone Review

Minden Grills 94922-89460-1 Deluxe Ceramic Pizza StoneI bought this item for a couple of reasons. I've been using a stone for making pizzas for a year or so in my indoor oven. It recently broke and I needed a replacement. I've also recently acquired a decent gas grill for outdoors. I read about cooking pizzas on a grill outdoors and figured this was a great idea. The grill gets much hotter than my oven (between 600 and 700 degrees whereas my oven is straining to hit 550) and I had read in my pizza bible "American Pie" that you should get your oven as hot as possible.
I received my stone on Friday and took a shot at my first pizza on Sunday. I learned an important lesson on the first couple of tries. I can get the grill up to 600 degrees easily (according to the built in thermometer on the grill lid), but the stone temperature hits almost 700 degrees ( have an Infrared thermometer which is great for getting the temp of the stone). As opposed to a conventional oven with heating elements on top and bottom, the grill heats from below, and the complete lack of insulation of the lid of the grill allows the heat to radiate away fast enough that the pizza will brown quickly on the bottom, but not be browned on top. My next attempt was at a much lower temp. About 400 deg on the lid thermometer and around 350 on the stone. This cooled slower than what I am used to in my indoor oven, but the top and bottom of the pizza crisped up at about the same time leading to a very nice result.
One other note on this stone. I could have probably gotten a replacement stone for around $30 that would have worked fine on the grill. I like the metal stand that comes with this stone. It helps keep the pizza from sliding away when sliding the peel under it.
