Broil King Sovereign 70 Liquid-Propane Gas Grill with Rotisserie Review

If you need heat, this thing is borderline too much. Put a pizza stone in and you can cook a proper pizza at 750 degrees. Thick steaks - you had better be ready to turn down the heat. Brown a quail in 2.5 minutes per side - you'll have perfect mahogany color.
For the past 8 years I have been grilling on a broil king and when I decided to replace it, I looked at everything. Barbeques Galore's Turbo models were the only ones that really had me thinking about switching away from Broil King. I didn't want a $4,000 grill. The all stainless Turbo model would run me almost $2,000.00 and I am not sure how much longer it was going to last in reality. So I went back to Broil King and spent $700 and I got another great grill.
Pros:
Hot - you can seriously mess up some meat if you are not careful.
Well built - it is not carved from billet, but it is plenty sturdy.
SS grates - I was always a cast iron grate fan, but I really like the stainless steel cooking surface and I think it will outlast the rest of the grill.
Value - For the quality and the power of this thing, I think it is a great deal.
Controls - The flame controls have a great feel of precision to them without any play.
Replacement parts - everything is replacable and the manufacturer is going to be around to sell you parts.

Con's:
Hot - you can seriously mess up some meat if you are not careful.
Flare-ups - This one seems to flare up more easily than my last one which had different flame shields.
Cast aluminum body - you can overheat this grill and the body of it can deform.
Gas burner for rotisserie - Honestly, I don't know if this is good or bad since I never use the rotisserie, but everyone else uses an infrared burner.

Overall, I like this Broil King even better than my last one and I have never grilled on anything better.

Broil King Model 94944 Crown 40 Liquid Propane 44,000 BTU Gas Grill with Side Burner Review

I was looking for a propane grill in the $400 range to replace a 15-year-old Weber Spirit and saw that Broil King received favorable ratings on About.com.

This product has a nice, even temperature across the whole cooking surface using Broil-King's Stainless Steel Super 8 burner -- it's basically a figure 8 with flame ports on the inside and outside edges.The flow valves turn very easily over a wide range of motion to provide excellent control over the flame and heat.The grill also includes the Flav-R-Wave bar which, like the vaporizer bars found in many other grills, burns off grill drippings for added flavor.The side trays fold down for easy storage (nice feature!).Assembly was almost too easy.

There were a few parts problems with the grill.Several slats on the cast-iron cooking grates were broken off (skimpy packaging) and the hood-mounted thermometer reads about 150 degrees even with the hood open on a cool day.A quick call to Broil-King's parts department and warranty replacements for both were on the way.

The left burner is a bit small and underpowered -- it's good for keeping sauces warm but doesn't provide enough space, say, for boiling up some corn in a pot. I would have also liked to see a fuel gauge included (I found a good inline gauge for $12 at a local big-box store).

All in all, it's a great grill for a great price and strongly recommend it.The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because of the packaging/parts problems.

This is my second Broil King grill.The last one, a Crown 2, lasted 10 years.I looked at all the grills that were carried by Lowes and Home Depot but none of the seemed to be built as well as the Crown 2 I had.I finally saw that I could order a Crown 20 on Amazon.It took a while to receive the grill but it was worth the wait.The grill is built solid and looks great as well.I've had the grill a couple weeks and have cooked out almost every evening.So far I've cooked chicken, steak, shrimp and hamburgers and everything has turned out great.

I would recommend this grill to any one looking for a well built grill that will last and cooks great food.

Broil King Model 987734 Sovereign 70 Liquid Propane 48,000 BTU Gas Grill with Rear Rotisserie Burner Review

This grill was easy to assemble and is very attractive looking. There is only 2 of us to cook for unless I have guests, so this grill is a perfect size.The sides flip down so you can store it easily. As for cooking - the rotisserie burner is AWESOME! I used it twice since I received my grill a week ago. Cooks meat perfectly - juicy and delicious! The cooking times that are given in the owners guide are pretty accurate. The grill is solid, sturdy, and I look forward to getting a lot of use out of it. I found that it does have a "cold spot" when all 3 burners are on but at least now I know where it is and can adjust accordingly. I have purchased many LP grills over the years and so far this one is the best.

This is our second Broil King grill!We bought a Broil King Imperial in 2004 and totally loved it!We just had to replace it because it was worn out and the weather was kinda taking its toll because we didn't cover it too much.We definitely knew we would buy another Broil King because they are such great grills.A lot of people may not like the looks of it because it is not all stainless steel but this thing can cook anything PERFECTLY!My husband just fixed some steak, cheese and cilantro quesadillas and they were the best quesadillas I ever had!I know that we will love using this grill because they are fantastic grills!Definitely recommend to anyone.Buy one of these instead of Weber's which are more expensive!

Finally ditched the Chinese grill (junk) for a North American made product. Broil Kings are made in Canada. I am very pleased with the product. I am a journeyman electrician who has spent his life assembling expensive products as well as repairing uber-expensive machine tools at Caterpillar. I know what quality is.

This model has a plastic base and mild steel frame that does a fine job. Plastic actually holds up very well in the midwest. This particular base is injection molded and heavy enough to do fine.

The upper side trays are stainless as are the doors and again are substantial enough to hold up well. The cook chamber is cast aluminum. Burners are stainless. Grill is cast iron (Chinese) and looks OK. The ignitor works fantastic. The gas valves are silky smooth and have click detents. Very nice. All the tubing was bent very well. Overall fit and finish is a 9 out of 10. Just a few minor points keep it from a 10.

I did not know how crappy my old grill was until I fired this baby up! Very hot, even heat. Did some chicken last night, excellent. Can't wait to use the included rotisserie. The side burner is plenty hot, used it for some asparagus.

I would highly recommend this grill. Very nice.

This grill suits my needs.I wanted a grill fixed to the ground because I enjoy grilling on my side deck that's right off the kitchen, I also enjoy not having to worry about how full my propane tank is.So this post mount natural gas grill was a perfect fit.
What makes this grill over-the-top awesome?

* The side shelves are made of very durable material, and it's easy to clean.The side shelves also have drink *beer holders* that are far offset from the grilling surface to keep the brew cool
* The grill has a thermometer that works!And the ignitor works too.
* You don't have to use briquettes with the flav-r-wave, but you can if you want to
* The grilling surface is huge, no space wasted, and the upper rack is twice the cooking size, even though my charmglow grill was about the same overall size.
* The instruction manaul that comes with the grill is mind blowing - pictures, sturdy, color manual with recipes, instructions for care, index, ideas.It's written by folks that genuinely want you to enjoy your grill!
*There's really not much assembly to do - I'm a bean counter and figured it out.
* The knobs to hang your brushes from are a nice touch
* I bought this on amazon and the shipping was great - not a nick on the box

Broil King 94974 Crown 70 Liquid-Propane Gas Grill with Rotisserie Review

I spent a couple of months researching grills before I decided on the Broil King 70.I wanted a rotisserie and removable or drop shelves, because I have a smaller balcony.This grill fit my needs perfectly!

I only installed one shelf because of size limitations.Assembly was a little awkward, but very straight-forward.The only problem was that about 4 of the screws are in tight places requiring a little wrench acrobatics.I've been cooking on it for a few weeks and it lights effortlessly.The rotisserie works like a dream, cooking a 6lb turkey breast and boneless lamb leg to perfection. I don't think I could get a whole turkey to fit, however.

I'm kicking myself that I wasted 2 months of the summer doing research instead of buying this one right away!

Broil King Model 94947 Crown 40 Natural Gas 44,000 BTU Gas Grill with Side Burner Review

I'm no grill expert and this was my first new grill purchase.I needed natural gas connection at an affordable price, so I went with the BK Crown 40. Some notes: Even though it's natural gas the area behind the doors is still designed to hold a LP tank. Why? That should have been transformed into a usable storage area. The hardward used to put together the grill is fairly cheap in my opinion. The main grilling area is pretty good quality, the burner, the cast iron grills, the top. Lesser quality: the doors, the base, wheels, storage cabinet, hardware. It's almost impossible to find a cheaper nat gas grill with a side burner, so maybe it's still a good deal for the price, but they could of really improved this grill for an extra $15 in parts.

Broil King 934664 Monarch 40 40,000-BTU Liquid-Propane Gas Grill with Side Burner Review

I did tons of research online to find the best gas grill. I wanted a good quality grill that will last, not rust out and not need constant upkeep and replacement parts.I'm only cooking for my wife and I so I did not need a huge oversized grill. I checked all of the local big box stores.The smaller grills at these stores had a nice price tag ($80-$150) but they were so flimsy and all of the online reviews said they either rusted out or broke after a year or two of use.I was willing to step it up a notch and pay more, but in the big box stores all you get for a bigger price tag is a bigger grill that will still rust out and break down after a couple of years.I wanted something that would last.The next option up in the big box stores was to purchase a Weber. Weber has a great reputation for quality, but they are so expensive and big. I found that the Broil King brand was the perfect solution to my problem. They build high quality grills (via Onward Manufacturing Co. which has some affiliateion with Weber, but I'mnot sure what.) Broil King has several differnt models with a lot of configurations and options. They are one of the few companies that use cast aluminum for the oven (it will not rust and comes with a lifetime warranty).Their burner design is praised in online reviews and comes with a 5 year warranty.They use heavy duty cast iron cooking grids that weigh over seven pounds each. Their heat diffuser (Flav-R-Wave) is made of heavy duty stainless steel (other companies use cheap steel..just a step up from aluminum foil). I finally narrowed my search down to a Monarch or Crown model. Amazon's price ($319), no tax and free shipping sold me on the Monarch 40.

One thing to note, is that the stand looks like stainless steel, but it isn't. It is steel painted to look like stainless.Also, I agree with another poster that the stand could use some extra stffness.The fact that the casters are plastic bother me, but they work and they are used on all of the Broil King's grills.So I think the only con on the Monarch line is the cart/stand.It will last, but I think the actual grill will outlast the cart.Of course, this is the bottom of the Broil King line.In the end, I think I finally found what I was looking for. I just wish Broil King was sold in more local stores. If they were, the would tear up the competition!

One final thought. The "Mr. Bar-B-Q Platinum Prestige Medium Grill Cover" is the perfect fit and best quality cover I have found.It was only $19.99 when I bought it...and free shipping!
