Solaire 30-Inch InfraVection Natural Gas Cart Grill, Stainless Steel Review

This grill is simply amazing. It is made entirely out of stainless steel, and arrives fully assembled. It is quite heavy, and it is a two person job getting it off the wooden pallet it is shipped on. To hook it up to natural gas, the manufacturer recommends SOL-12HOSE12, however, as I found out, it does not come with all the fittings needed. The grill has a 1/2" FPT (Female Pipe Thread), and hose has a 1/2" flare connection. You will need a 1/2" MPT (Male Pipe Thread) to 1/2" Male Flare adapter. You'll find these at your hardware store in the same section where they keep fittings to hook up your gas appliances. Make sure you put pipe dope on the pipe thread, but not on the flare thread. The other end of the hose has a quick connect fitting, with a 1/2" FPT. In my case, the gas outlet on the outside of my house had a 1/2" FPT as well, so I had to get a 1/2" MPT to MPT fitting, which I found in the same area in my hardware store as the other fitting. Make sure you liberally apply pipe dope to the male fittings and leak check with 1 part dish liquid, 1 part water, brush it onto all the fittings, including the ones that were factory installed.

The grill heats up very quickly. The infrared is glowing red within minutes. To grill steaks, I put them on the infrared burner, 2 minutes on each side (turning them 90 degrees after 1 minute to give them a cross pattern), and then I move them to the convection side to finish cooking them. Make sure you leave the lid open, unless you turn down the burners.

I bought this grill to replace a 26,000 BTU Weber propane grill, and the difference is like night and day. With the amount of energy this grill puts out, I'm happy I went with the natural gas version. I have a feeling it would go through propane tanks like there is no tomorrow. Another nice feature is that it can be converted into a built-in grill should I ever decide to build a bbq island. The grill is the same as the non-cart version and it is just bolted to the cart. The cart itself is quite basic. It has a little raised shelf on the bottom inside, and it has a shelf on the inside of each door, but there are no hooks to hang things like brushes or tongs on.

Minden Grill Company MMC1000 Master Natural Gas Grill, Classic Black Review

I have mixed feelings about this purchase. I love the grill and the looks of it and its cooking. However, as of now (June 2009) this grill is not ready, in my opinion, for natural gas customers yet. It looks like it was a quick conversion from the propane version, but not well thought through. It is too complicated to explain here, but there is a kink that the gas pipe needs to make in order to stay within the grill that is actually scary. Makes you wonder if gas will actually flow through that kink. It does, hopefully safely... (see attached pictures)

I need to give 5 stars to the people of Minden for customer support! They promptly replied to e-mails and called me back immediately to walk me through setting it up and solving problems. They have also committed to replacing parts that need to be replaced and also to mail me an upgrade part for the natural gas grill, when it becomes available, so I will update this review as needed.

The setting up/assembly instructions (that are also apparently being upgraded) are not totally correct, have mistakes and seem to be not completely converted from the propane model.

Overall, I think this natural gas version was rushed out to the market, probably to meet a demand. The grill looks great otherwise, and cooks very well (only used few times). Small, light and very mobile, if you need to move it around.

Charbroil 4584609 Natural Gas Conversion Kit Review

I bought my Char Broil Quantum Grill planning on converting it to natural gas.I read that you could do the conversion yourself easily.I found directions on the internet on how to drill out the gas jets.I'm a do-it-yourself person but this didn't sound like a great idea.So I bought this conversion kit.It was easy to install and it works fine that gets it 3 stars.Why only 3 stars?

Here's what's in the kit: a gas hose with quick connect, a wrench, decorative valve bezels and directions.It turns out that the Char Broil Quantum "dual fuel" grills are built for natural gas and they add little fittings to convert them to propane.You lift out the burners, use the wrench to remove the little brass fittings, put the burners back on and hook up the gas hose.Done.I could have visited my local hardware store and done it myself safely for about $10.

Don't get me wrong, I love the grill and the kit works fine but - save your money.

Char Broil Magnum 500 Quantum Infrared Three-Burner Gas Grill, with Sideburner Review

I have always been a wood fire BBQ kind of guy - I like meat cooked over a *real* flame, and even charcoal has always seemed to me like cheating (though I've been using a charcoal Weber kettle for 20 years).I never even considered a gas grill for myself for these reasons.

For my senior Mom & Dad, however, the task of lighting charcoal, etc was too much hassle, so this past weekend I went out shopping for a gas grill for them. After going back and forth between three different home centers and Costco, I settled on this unit as by far the best "bang for the buck" in terms of build quality, performance characteristics, and ease of use for under $500.I seriously considered going up to the Weber Genesis, but for 50% more, I just couldn't quite justify it. My requirement was good quality for under $500.

After about a one-hour erector set project putting it all together (not difficult, just time consuming), I fired it up and let it burn off for about 20 minutes. I was immediately impressed with how hot the cooking surfaces became (and how quickly). The nifty temp sensors at the grate level registered 700+ degrees!

After burn-off, I tried it out with what I have found to be one of the trickiest things to grill over open flame (gas or wood/charcoal): raw marinated chicken parts. To be done right, the chicken has to be crispy on the outside - not burned, and moist and completely cooked on the inside.With unevenly shaped and sized chicken parts, this can be devilishly tricky.

But with this grill, I found I was able to keep the left most burner at full throttle, and the two right burners at low settings and get creative.This allowed me to beautifully sear the skin using the left side of the grill, then finish cooking on the right side (with the BBQ closed).The results were amazing.

One of my favorite things about this grill turned out to be that it is really easy to add wood chips for smoke flavor.Because there is a perforated metal "screen" (the infrared reflector) under the food, it catches the wood chips and holds them at a perfect smoking temperature where they will smolder but not flare up.

Speaking of flare-ups, this grill did NOT exhibit flare-ups at all.Even with fatty pieces of chicken that had been marinated in an olive oil mixture, there was almost no burning or smoking, even on the "searing" side of the hot grill.

When turned down low, I also found the evenness of the heating surface to be impressively consistent, and the large stainless "grill" surface not only made great marks on the food, but also did not stick as badly as most coated steel or iron grill surfaces do.

On the con side, I can imagine that the perforated screen is going to require some periodic maintenance to keep it clean.The good news is that it comes out in three easy-to-handle sections shaped like little trays, each holding a section of grill.You pull the "tray" up and out, then lift the grill surface out of the tray making both very easy to clean.

One final note - I also prepared a boneless leg of lamb on the grill using a "generic" rotisserie (Grill-Pro brand).it *barely* fit between the closed lid and the grill surface, but again, the infrared cooking system worked beautifully. I warmed it up at full throttle for about 5-10 minutes before mounting the marinated lamb roast, then allowed it to sear beautifully for about 15 minutes. Then I turned the burners all down to their lowest settings, threw on a thumb-sized stick of oak from one of our trees, and dropped the lid.

An hour and a half later, we enjoyed one of the best lamb roasts I have ever had!

Highly recommended, especially if you can get it for the price I paid (which was about $[...] less than Amazon's currently listed price)

*Bottom 1/2 of construction is a bit flimsy, but better than many at this price point

This grill suits my needs.I wanted a grill fixed to the ground because I enjoy grilling on my side deck that's right off the kitchen, I also enjoy not having to worry about how full my propane tank is.So this post mount natural gas grill was a perfect fit.
What makes this grill over-the-top awesome?

Broil King Model 94947 Crown 40 Natural Gas 44,000 BTU Gas Grill with Side Burner Review

I'm no grill expert and this was my first new grill purchase.I needed natural gas connection at an affordable price, so I went with the BK Crown 40. Some notes: Even though it's natural gas the area behind the doors is still designed to hold a LP tank. Why? That should have been transformed into a usable storage area. The hardward used to put together the grill is fairly cheap in my opinion. The main grilling area is pretty good quality, the burner, the cast iron grills, the top. Lesser quality: the doors, the base, wheels, storage cabinet, hardware. It's almost impossible to find a cheaper nat gas grill with a side burner, so maybe it's still a good deal for the price, but they could of really improved this grill for an extra $15 in parts.

It cooks great, has lots of power and can also cook at low temps.

I owned my last Weber for over 15 years and love this new one.

Weber 7519 Gas Grill Rotisserie Review

I have only used the rotisserie unit twice - spinning chickens both times and the results were fabulous.(To those who have never done a rotisserie chicken at home and don't know why it could possibly be worth the bother (when grocery stores, Costco, etc. all have them) my only advice is that you really just need to try one done right.Then, do a leg of lamb, a beef roast, and you'll understand.)This is a powerful, quiet motor and a nice stainless spit.I loaded my first chicken relatively unevenly, and the motor put up no fuss at turning it.One comment, make sure when installing the motor braket you put the nuts inside the firebox - otherwise the lid of the grill will not shut.Great grill, great accessory.

Ducane 31731101 Affinity 3100 Propane Grill, Black Review

This is the nicest grill I have ever owned and I can't believe it really is only about $100 more than the last grill I had which was a total piece of junk. It is really nice, quality made. It heats evenly and quickly and is really much larger cooking area than I thought. Its perfect.

I put the entire thing together on my own and I'm a pretty petite woman. It was nowhere near as complicated to assemble as I thought. However I could not locate the knobs for the grill (dials) or the handle for the door. I re-checked every box, maybe it was there and the kids conveniently "relocated" it or it was missing in the first place (which I believe). I called Ducane, a few questions later they shipped out what was supposed to be 3 knobs and 1 handle, only got 1 knob. Tried again, only one knob. 3rd time is the charm and the woman I talked to the last two times said she would have the error corrected to reflect the proper part. Really their service was amazing and I'm thrilled with the grill. I splurged on a nice Ducane cover, I'm glad I did but this baby will get a parking space in the garage come winter, I'm in love with it!
