Weber 6780001 Genesis Platinum C Stainless-Steel Propane Grill Review

At first the thought of spending $750 on a grill seemed insane.Then I started adding up all of the $250-$350 grills I've had to buy in the 7-years I've owned my home. Based on reading hundreds of reviews, I figured that a stainless steel grill made by Weber would be the last grill I'd have to buy.I think I might be right.

I bought the natural gas version, which I would highly recommend.No more messing around with propane.Just turn on the valve and you've got flame.

I've had the grill outdoors for 4 months now (somtimes covered, sometimes not) and there are no signs of any corrosion anywhere.The stainless steel cleans easily and polishes up nicely.

The drip catch system is higher quality than I've seen, with a ceramic coated 'funnel' that drains juices down to the tin catch pan. Nothing collects near the flames so flare-ups are minimized. The 'flavorizer' bars immediately incinerate any grease that falls on them.The grill is easy to dismantle for cleaning.

The front-to-back burners provide perfectly even heat and a lot of it.The thermometer on the grill easily spins past the highest marking of 600 degrees.At these temperatures steaks sear nicely and the grill is almost 'self cleaning' since any stuck-on food is almost completely incinerated.Anything that remains on the grill easily scrapes off the stainless steel grates.

The front-to-back burners also allow you to use the grill like an oven.By shutting off the center burner, you can use indirect heat to cook food without searing it. The insulated hood keeps heat inside which makes the grill more efficient but also makes it easier to stand next to while cooking (not much heat radiates around the grille).

I'm convinced that this grill is an excellent investment.

Weber Summit Gold D6 Stainless Steel Natural Gas Grill Review

I have owned my Weber Summit Gold A6 Natural Gas model since last November, and I could not be happier with it.A little about me first.I am a former chef, having trained in France and worked in some of the finest steak houses in Southern California for several years.Although I now work in a different job, my wife is a personal chef, and I often help her with jobs, usually cooking on the Weber.

We formerly owned a Weber Genesis, and while it performed alright, I never felt it got hot enough for my liking.Not so the Summit Gold.Mine has always lit easily, rises to the 700 degree range within minutes, and has sufficient sensitivity to be turned down to under 300 degrees for cooking lighter items such as shrimp.But let's face it, steaks are what are best on a grill, and I enjoy the fact that this grill heats to an appropriate temperature to quickly sear the outside while leaving the inside tender and juicy.We have also grilleda variety of styles of chicken, fish (salmon, trout, catfish, swordfish, etc.), and vegetables, all with great results.On Thanksgiving, we used the indirect method (i.e., side burners on, middle burners off) to cook two turkeys (the most popular being the one with garlic and chili powder rubbed outside and stuffed with chopped tamales inside), and both came out tender and juicy in under 4 hours.

Two things to be mindful of.First, if you buy a propane model, know that propane burns hotter than natural gas, so you may have some adjustments in cooking times, etc.And second, if you cook a lot on the grill like we do (2-4 times a week), you need to keep the grill clean.This means every few weeks, emptying the grease catch, scraping down the flavorizer bars, removing the ash build up in the bottom, and cleaning the grease from the sides and lid.Any barbeque will require this kind of cleaning for optimum performance, but the effort is definitely worth it.

This grill has well exceeded our expectations, and with its 25 year warranty, we expect to be using it for years to come.

I had to cancel my order when Amazon kept pushing my delivery date back. I still bought the genesis gold B from my local hardware store.It cooks great and has all the features I was looking for. It heats up and is ready to cook in a couple of minutes.

I upgraded to the gold because the grill, flavorizer bars ( those things the juice drips on and gives the flavor to the meat) and burners are stainless steel instead of porcelin coated steel.I really like having a second side table instead of side burner.

At 20 bucks or less, this is quite a good bargain. Multiple ways to mount it, it is plenty bright enough and the neck is actually almost too long. I keep mine curled a little. I'm quite sure this would work fine on even the larger grills. I don' understand the previous reviewer that pretty much says good things and then gives it one star. It is well built and does exactly what it says very well. Don't guess at it in the dark, get one of these!

GENESIS EP-310 BLACK NAT Review

This review is for the Weber S-310, the stainless steel version of the E-310, with SS grates and flavor bars like the EP-310. (I got the natural gas version. It comes with the hose already attached, plus the brass coupler.) The front, shelves, and hood are SS. The sides of the hood and shelves are gray aluminum, and the sides and back are gray painted steel. All the parts are of a high quality. Note: The newest S model has a frame around the front doors, not the solid front as shown in the Amazon picture. I prefer the cleaner looking solid front, but this version makes it have the same look and production across the Genesis line.

Everything comes very safely and securely packaged in a large box with lots of cardboard and plastic bags. The various nuts and bolts are in several separate packages. Most of the stainless steel is covered with a rubbery coating that is fairly easily removed. I suggest using a cloth to hold the part being stripped since the SS is a fingerprint magnet. The instructions are mostly pictures, often small. It is easy to make a mistake that can cause a problem further down the assembly. For instance, the clips that have a nut attached should always face the inside of whatever they are being attached to. The four wheels have two that lock. Those two should be placed in the front so they can be reached.

The instructions show two people lifting the top unit out of the box. One can do it if you remove the hood first. Simply remove the retaining bolts and put the hood aside. Next, remove all the parts packed inside the top unit. What is left is easy to lift. You can also slice down the edges of the box with a shop knife and lay the sides flat for easier access. Make sure you have lots of clean flat space in which to work, such as your driveway. Carefully lay all the parts out for easy access and identification.

Use a 7/16" socket wrench for most bolts. One bolt is 11mm, though. The included wrench is very impractical, and is only needed to adjust the front doors to square. You will need a #1 and a #2 Phillips screwdriver for the screws. A power drill will work, but carefully set the torque. Putting it together took me over 2 hours. The excellent design virtually assures proper assembly. After hooking up to the natural gas line, I turned the unit on high. The first burner has the electric spark so it should be opened first. The knobs may feel a bit loose, but that is because they are attached to springy gas regulators. The push-button spark generator is quite effective. To test, and to clean the interior, I let it heat up to 650 degrees - much hotter than my previous grill could ever go. It did so rather quickly, and could have kept going! (The thermometer goes up to 700 degrees.) At that high temperature, the hood handle remained relatively cool, except at the very sides, where it was a little warm. Opening the hood sends out a blast of hot air. You can then appreciate having the control knobs placed well to the side instead of on the front.

The warranty is the best in the business. The parts quality assures full utilization of that warranty, justifying the higher initial cost. It reminds me of another industry leader, Anderson Windows and Doors. There is simply no substitute for the best of something.

Char-Broil Patio Caddie Gas Grill Review

Consider this a long term test.I bought my Patio Caddie out of desperation when another cheap grille died one nice summer Saturday with friends coming over for dinner.I simply wasn't in a mood to spend $400 or $500 for a king kong unit.
What makes a good grille is really simple: it must start every time (it does), it must generate enough heat to cook (it does, but keeping the cover on helps)and it must have high quality grids (it does).On the last point, and what really sets the Patio Caddie Apart, are the heavy porcelainized grids.The are wonderful to cook on, easy to clean, haven't sagged in 5 years use.
Consider this the Honda Civic of grills: I fill the mini-tank once or twice a year for $7 and cook at least once a week year round (in Seattle, no less).It is absolutely the finest chicken cooking device I have ever seen and easily cooks dinner for 4 to 6.No it won't handle a 10 Lb salmon in one shot or cook a dozen burgers for a tribal reunion.And a Honda Civic wont carry an entire NFL team at one time either.
The only downside is that the heat output does become limited below 50 degrees, but that's a function of the propane, not the grill itself.
If you live in a condo or apartment with a small deck, if you're on a budget, or want a portable unit look no further, this is it.
I will be moving on to a bigger and better grille in a couple weeks, and believe it or not, I have a friend who wants my old patio caddie for her condo.Old, greasy and well used, it still has life in it, and she knows how well it cooks.I just hope my new, bigger grille works as well.

Charcoal grilling arguably produces better flavors, but propane has inarguable convenience.Some of the benefits of propane include push-button ignition, no lighter fluid, no coaxing the charcoal to burn evenly and no messy charcoal to clean up.If you've made the decision to go propane, the Weber Silver A is a good selection.It's a well-made and of sturdy construction.It requires some assembly, but no tools that aren't provided with grill. The manufacturer claims the grill can be assembled in less than 40 minutes and that's approximately how long it took me to assemble it.It is necessary to lift the heavy body of the grill and set it down upon the stand.The directions show two people performing this task.I was assembling the grill by myself and was able to do this by myself, but I would imagine it is wiser and safer to do it with two people.The Silver A is significantly smaller than many of the other grills on the market.I have limited space in my backyard, so the more compact design was an added plus. If considering the Silver A, you should probably look at the Silver B as well.Although a little more expensive, the Silver B offers 36,000 BTU's to the Silver A's more modest 26,000 BTU's.Although I'm happy with the performance of the Silver A, the Silver B is probably worth the investment if the grill is going to get heavy usage.There is a Silver C model as well, but this is a larger model that does not share the more compact design of its smaller siblings.I recommend the Silver A to anyone looking for a compact, but quality propane grill, but would urge the prospective purchaser to look at the more powerful yet compact Silver B model as well.

Weber 9890 Gas Barbecue Rotisserie Review

When I see an item with 1 star, it tells me that item is really bad and to avoid it at all costs.The reviewer stated that the EZ-Que was a better rotisserie, but otherwise had nothing to say about the Weber.

I agree the EZ-Que is a novel and well made piece of equipment, which sells for a lot more money than the Weber rotisserie.The cradle/cage design is easier to load than a traditional spit, and anyone who wants to spend $130 for one is encouraged to get theirs.

(Note: EZ-Que supplies Weber with their cradles, which Weber sells under their own brand name with the Weber motor for $90; substantially less than EZ-Que's price.You can get it here on Amazon if you prefer that style to the traditional spit.)

I have 2 Weber rotiserries, one for the gas grill, one for the kettle.And while I agree the EZ-Que cradles are a better design, the Weber spits are well made and do a good job.The mounting on a Genesis is good and secure.The materials are good.The spit is solid feeling, the counterbalance is nicely made, the motor works well.I can fit 2 whole chickens on the spit and the motor doesn't strain to turn them.The tines that hold the food are large and strong.The food cooked on a rotisserie is delicious.

One reviewer complained about the cord length.Yes, the cord is just a pigtail.You need an extension cord.

Anyways, the Weber is a good rotisserie and I am giving it 4 stars.The 1-star reviewer was off the mark.

This is one solid grill.The panels, grates, double walled cabinet doors, side shelves all are robust in materials and design. The assembly was minimal, I had it together in 15 minutes.At first I thought the handle lamps and lighted panel were gimmick, but actually are very functional. At 70K BTU, this grill packs a mean punch. It zoomed up to 700'F in less than 10min, so cleaning this afterwards is a breeze. My first use were two 2lb chickens on the rotisserie; the S-670 performed gallantly. If I were to pick a weak spot, it would be the caster wheels; they are a bit on the light-duty side especially when compared with the rest of the grill. Weber 5790001 Summit Gold D6 Propane Gas Grill Review

I bought this grill from Amazon and in short everything worked right out of the box.I bought the grill so that I could sear steaks, grill for a party and cook BBQ low and slow all in one grill.I have had nothing but success, great grill marks and I am able to maintain a 230-250 degree temperature for BBQ (with smoker box for great flavor).The six burners plus the smoker burner and wide cooking surface allow me to tailor the temperature perfectly.The setup instructions were clear and I was able to assemle it myself.I am very pleased with my purchase of the Summit Gold D6 and knowing Weber will be around for as long as I will own this grill as also very reassuring.

Agonized over whether or not an expensive grill was worth the money.I call it expensive since you can get the same size for nearly half the price at a retail chain.I'm not agonizing anymore.I have used it for three weeks now and the kitchen oven is getting jealous.We cook everything on this grill.Today, we finally used the rotisserie for a whole chicken and it was the best we've had. Charbroil Chili Pepper Roaster Review

I bought this thinking it would be a useful item mainly because I eat so many peppers of all kinds.When I got it in the mail, I was disappointed to find that the holes in it will hold only the smallest of peppers.All the Jalepenos at the grocery store (and I went to 3 of them looking) were all too large to fit.Even my homegrown peppers are way too big, and end up just falling ofer spilling the fillings out all over the grill.I have spent some time filing out the holes which has helped somewhat, but basically these roasters are for serranos and other very small chiles.

Calphalon One Nonstick 11-Inch Square Grill Pan Review

I got this to supplement my Calphalon Professional square grill.I use this one when preparing barbecue with high sugar marinades and sauces.

First of all, unlike a lot of nonstick pans, you can get this grill very hot. This produces authentic looking grill marks and that sought after smoky taste.However, even the stickiest, most burned on remnants come off with a soak and a wipe.

I also use this pan to grill more delicate, crumbly meats like hamburgers, crab cakes, and fillets of fish.These may still crumble, but at least it won't be the pans fault. For plain grilling of steaks and chops, I still prefer hot, bare metal to nonstick.

The best thing about this pan, though, is the price.50 bucks is very reasonable for a professional piece of cookware.It's also important to note that Calphalon nonstick grills are top rated by Cook's Illustrated magazine.

Hamilton Beach 25219 HealthSmart Contact Grill, White Review

This grill seems inspired by the smallest George Foreman grill, the "Champ." But there are some significant differences: (1) The Champ has a square grilling surface. This one's is oval, with perhaps a slightly smaller area.

(2) The Champ has an open front, with a separate little splash tray that's supposed to catch drippings. This grill has a lip surrounding most of the front, except for a 2" well that drains into an integrated drippings drawer. (3) The Champ is tilted forward to force liquids to drain out. This grill is basically level, with drip channels.

So I bought this one, which seems less messy -- especially for gooey stuff like cheese panini -- and more flexible. If you block the well with a strip of cardboard, you can even use it to cook omelettes or a kind of waffles. The only downside to the lipped front (vs. the Champ) is that you need to scoop veggies off the grill, rather than simply dragging them out the front. There is no timer or on/off switch -- you just plug/unplug it.

The upper plate floats maybe about 1" above the lower plate. If you want to press thicker panini, consider the Hamilton Beach 25450 Panini Press, available on Amazon for about 2-1/2x the price. It similarly doubles as a contact grill, but it's larger in all dimensions, with about 3"-4" of vertical float. (Its plates have pinstripe ribbing, though, so don't try using it for eggs or waffles.) Or the similar Breville SG620XL, which has flat plates that can be used for fried eggs or pancakes.

GENESIS EP-310 COPPER LP Review

I conducted a long and tired research campaign regarding which grill to purchase. The Webers are costly, but how many off brand grills will you buy in the 10+ years that Weber warranties their product?
Do right by yourself and spend a few extra bucks and buy this grill. I soecifically purchased the EP model as it has stainless steel grates, etc.
There are a number of choices regarding Weber's line of grills, don't complicate things, keep it simple.Do you need a side burner or rotisserie?Not me.
Do you need a huge grill?Only if you cook for large groups on a weekly basis.I just had 15+ people for the 4th of July- cooked ribs and Kobe steaks and it worked great!
