Weber 72201 Replacement Charcoal Grates Review

I've got a Smokey Joe. One day, I managed to trash the grate. It is a long story, but suffice to say, I do not recommend dropping a grate on the ground repeatedly as a cleaning method. Eventually the grate breaks. That was my fault, not Weber's.
So, I needed a new grate. I bought this one. As far as I could tell, it is a relacememt, through and through. It fit, it held up under the heat. It grilled. Not too complicated.
You've got the obvious choice: do you buy a new grill, or just the replacement? I can't guide you there. That depends on the age of your grill. However, if you've a sturdy grill, and in a misguided cleaning effort you did a bit of damage, go for the replacement.
I fully recommend Weber's Replacement Charcoal Grates.

Weber 70601 Cooking Grates Review

Mislaid my original grate. This replacement slips below the lip bringing it closer to the coals and more difficult to seat evenly. Bars at handle don't cross grate completely allowing food to fall into flame if grill is crowded.
When I located my original, the REPLACEMENT IS 1/2" SMALLER IN DIAMETER!!!!VERY DISAPPOINTING

Weber 72801 Replacement Charcoal Grates Review

I feel the other reviewers rated this incorrectly.This is not the top grate for your food, rather this is for putting the charcoal on in the bottom section.There is no flip-up side option for this, there is no alternate sizing either.It just goes on the bottom of the kettle bowl so you have space for your coals.It is extremely heavy duty, my original grate from 1980 is almost rusted through and I have no need to replace it.But if you do, I'm sure it can last another 20 years.

If you're are cooking mainly burgers, steaks, and chicken you will not need this.However, for low and slow briskets and pork butts it is a must.Just put the meat on one side and leave the access hatch open on the other side. You will be able to quickly add fuel without losing a lot of heat. You can bbq a mean brisket in a weber if that is what you have to work with. This grate makes life so much easier for those long cook times.

Weber 7436 Replacement Hinged Cooking Grate Review

I had no idea that a cooking grate like this even existed until I was looking for Weber accessories on Amazon one day.I really wish my 22.5" Weber grill came with one of these in the first place, but I guess most casual grillers don't need access to the charcoal during grilling.

If you use lump charcoal, like I do, then this cooking grate is very valuable, because it allows you to shuffle the coals around without completely removing the grate.Also, if you use your grill to slow-cook meat, you can flip up the side of the grate and add more coals periodically without disrupting the food.
