Weber 2740001 Summit S-470 Grill, Propane, Stainless Steel Review

Weber 2740001 Summit S-470 Grill, Propane, Stainless SteelI started off looking at the TEC Infrared grills at around the $4k price range, after a while, I found I could get a similar grill from Fire Magic, for less money, so was about to go that route.I sent an e-mail to the people at Shopper's Choice, and asked some questions about Infrared grills in general. What I found out was very interesting, and kept me from buying the wrong grill.

It turns out, almost all infrared grills are only good for one thing, cooking steaks, and usually rare to medium rare in taste.I do not like my meat still mooing, so that was out of the question.About the only infrared grill that would allow you to cook other foods, and use other doneness levels, would be the TEC.This is because the TEC version can get down to around 300 degrees, where most other infrared grills have a low temp of only about 500-600 degrees. So, if you only like cooking steaks, then an infrared grill is for you.Otherwise, one of the Fire Magic grills would be a good choice, as you can get both infrared and conventional gas burners, but there is still one drawback to that, over this Weber model. That is, that if you need conventional burners for whatever you are cooking, the grill space over the infrared burner is wasted, and cannot be used for anything else.

After much looking around, and reading reviews of Weber grills (including the one already here on this grill), I decided I wanted one of the Summit grills.I decided on the 470 model, because 4 main burners was more than enough for what I wanted to do, and our family isn't huge, so the added space probably wouldn't get used. The reason I picked the higher end 4 burner model, was because I wanted the sear station, to get the effect of the infrared burner, without having to devote an entire burner to it.In my opinion, the lighted knobs are kind of a waste, however, I haven't needed to use them. The grill out light is kind of cool, and I've actually used it a few times now with good results.

I ordered this grill online (not through Amazon), and it arrived on a pallet, within a heavy cardboard box.Almost all of the main unit was already assembled, leaving the wings, and a few other things to install.I think it took me less than an hour to assemble the entire unit, once I got it off the pallet. This grill is heavy, around 300-350lbs, so it is a lot easier if you have a couple people to get it out of the packaging.

I was really impressed with the quality of the parts. All of the burners, flame tamers, and grates are made out of stainless steel, so they should last the life of the grill (which I expect to be 20 years or more). One of the more cool features of this grill, is the smoker box. This is something that did not even come with the higher-end grills, until you stepped up to the $6k or more grills. The smoker box is all stainless steel, and has its own burner on the very right side of the grill. It takes up little grilling space, which is nice.I've used it several times, and it seems to work pretty well.Controlling the amount of smoke is as easy as turning a knob.

On to the cooking. This grill is fantastic at cooking. You get those perfect sear marks on everything you cook, and the flavor is outstanding. One thing I would point out here, is if you think you really know how to grill, get the cook book by Jamie Purviance, called Weber's Real Grilling (bought here on Amazon for less than $17, 75 reviews at 5 stars), and you will really learn how to grill. It is amazing some of the things I used to do to try and make things taste better, only to learn it was the wrong thing to do.A lot of people I have seen grilling, do it the WRONG way, so I'd highly recommend this book, not only does it teach you the proper technique, it has some fantastic recipes in it (not just meat, either--my wife and I are fans of the Barbecue Chicken Pizzas--yes, on the grill pizza, and the Apple Cake).

The grill is fantastic at everything so far.I have not tried the rotisserie yet, but everything else works really well. The burner lighting system is great, basically like using a flame thrower to light the burner, so you don't have to sit there and keep sparking the igniter all the time (oh, and the igniter is nice, it's built-in to the knob, you don't push another button or anything, just turn the knob to light, and hold it for a second or two, and you're good to go.This grill is capable of getting very HOT.The first time I used it to make a couple steaks, with the sear burner on, I burned all the hair off of my right hand, just opening the grill cover!I did the same thing a few weeks later, until I learned my lesson--get longer grilling tools! The knobs regulate well, and the burners seem to cook evenly.

Overall, I'm really impressed with this grill.I would buy it again, without a second thought. It sure beats the Patio Caddy I had, up until I got this one. This grill does seem to go through the gas a little faster, but then again, it has more than one burner...I ordered the Weber grill cover that goes with this grill last week, because I noticed that even under a covered porch, the grill does get pretty dirty.

I wipe it down occasionally with a soft cloth and some WD-40 to make it gleam again. NO RUST on it- anywhere. Built like it will last just about forever. HIGHLY recomend it.

Weber 6840001 Genesis Gold B Natural Gas, Stainless Steel Review

Weber 6840001 Genesis Gold B Natural Gas, Stainless SteelI had to cancel my order when Amazon kept pushing my delivery date back. I still bought the genesis gold B from my local hardware store. It cooks great and has all the features I was looking for. It heats up and is ready to cook in a couple of minutes.

I upgraded to the gold because the grill, flavorizer bars ( those things the juice drips on and gives the flavor to the meat) and burners are stainless steel instead of porcelin coated steel.I really like having a second side table instead of side burner.

GENESIS EP-320 COPPER LP Review

GENESIS EP-320 COPPER LPWe have had the Weber EP 320 for about 3 weeks now and it is a dream. It is our fourth grill. The last two grills have been Weber's and they were our favorites. We were so thrilled with our last Weber (the Genesis Silver) and wanted to repeat the experience with a larger cooking surface.

Our old Weber never needed repairs but we are comforted by the fact that the Weber Grills are modular and you can inexpensively replace any needed part.

We have put our new grill through its paces these past few weeks cooking fish, pork, steak and vegetables.I used the side burner to heat the sauce. It holds the temperature beautifully, is easy to clean and easy to use.You won't regret buying this product.

Weber 1780001 Summit S-650 Propane Grill, Stainless Steel Review

Weber 1780001 Summit S-650 Propane Grill, Stainless SteelThis is my fourth gas grill which replaces a very expensive stainless "Turbo" unit I bought from Barbecues Galore about eight years ago. That Turbo started out fine, but steadily deteriorated to the point where I didn't even want to fire it up anymore. The quality of materials and workmanship on the Weber Summit S-650 is top shelf.Every detail is well thought-out and executed, including the burner system, high-end side burner, LP tank weight guage, heavy guage stainless grills, jet ignition system, separate smoker box and burner, drip tray system, massive lid, and LED grill-out lights that really work.I've only owned the Summit for a short time, but everything I've grilled so far has turned out perfectly. The six burners and large cooking area make it possible to cook for a large party, but also provide more options for indirect cooking.Want more heat without increased gas usage?Turn on the burners closer to the food. It's brilliant.Perhaps the best features are the flavorizer bars and grease drip system. They virtually guarantee no flare-ups on fatty foods like burgers and chicken quarters, which was a constant source of frustration with my previous grill. The grease hits the flavorizer bars and disappears into a poof of smoke. What misses the flavorizer bars hits the full width slanted grease tray that terminates into an aluminum catch pan.Clean and easy to manage with zero flare-ups and no charred food.

I really can't say enough good things about this grill and I can't think of a single negative to write about. While the Summit S-650 may seem expensive at first glance, it compares very favorably to grills costing 4x as much. With the Summit, you don't get what you pay for...you get much more.Is it possible to love a grill?:-)

Weber Genesis Silver A Gas LP Grill - Black Review

Weber Genesis Silver A Gas LP Grill - BlackCharcoal grilling arguably produces better flavors, but propane has inarguable convenience. Some of the benefits of propane include push-button ignition, no lighter fluid, no coaxing the charcoal to burn evenly and no messy charcoal to clean up.If you've made the decision to go propane, the Weber Silver A is a good selection. It's a well-made and of sturdy construction. It requires some assembly, but no tools that aren't provided with grill. The manufacturer claims the grill can be assembled in less than 40 minutes and that's approximately how long it took me to assemble it.It is necessary to lift the heavy body of the grill and set it down upon the stand. The directions show two people performing this task.I was assembling the grill by myself and was able to do this by myself, but I would imagine it is wiser and safer to do it with two people. The Silver A is significantly smaller than many of the other grills on the market.I have limited space in my backyard, so the more compact design was an added plus. If considering the Silver A, you should probably look at the Silver B as well.Although a little more expensive, the Silver B offers 36,000 BTU's to the Silver A's more modest 26,000 BTU's.Although I'm happy with the performance of the Silver A, the Silver B is probably worth the investment if the grill is going to get heavy usage. There is a Silver C model as well, but this is a larger model that does not share the more compact design of its smaller siblings.I recommend the Silver A to anyone looking for a compact, but quality propane grill, but would urge the prospective purchaser to look at the more powerful yet compact Silver B model as well.

Broil King Sovereign 70 Liquid-Propane Gas Grill with Rotisserie Review

Broil King Sovereign 70 Liquid-Propane Gas Grill with RotisserieIf you need heat, this thing is borderline too much. Put a pizza stone in and you can cook a proper pizza at 750 degrees. Thick steaks - you had better be ready to turn down the heat. Brown a quail in 2.5 minutes per side - you'll have perfect mahogany color.
For the past 8 years I have been grilling on a broil king and when I decided to replace it, I looked at everything. Barbeques Galore's Turbo models were the only ones that really had me thinking about switching away from Broil King. I didn't want a $4,000 grill. The all stainless Turbo model would run me almost $2,000.00 and I am not sure how much longer it was going to last in reality. So I went back to Broil King and spent $700 and I got another great grill.
Pros:
Hot - you can seriously mess up some meat if you are not careful.
Well built - it is not carved from billet, but it is plenty sturdy.
SS grates - I was always a cast iron grate fan, but I really like the stainless steel cooking surface and I think it will outlast the rest of the grill.
Value - For the quality and the power of this thing, I think it is a great deal.
Controls - The flame controls have a great feel of precision to them without any play.
Replacement parts - everything is replacable and the manufacturer is going to be around to sell you parts.

Con's:
Hot - you can seriously mess up some meat if you are not careful.
Flare-ups - This one seems to flare up more easily than my last one which had different flame shields.
Cast aluminum body - you can overheat this grill and the body of it can deform.
Gas burner for rotisserie - Honestly, I don't know if this is good or bad since I never use the rotisserie, but everyone else uses an infrared burner.

Overall, I like this Broil King even better than my last one and I have never grilled on anything better.

Weber 2780001 Summit S-670 Grill, Propane, Stainless Steel Review

Weber 2780001 Summit S-670 Grill, Propane, Stainless SteelThis is one solid grill. The panels, grates, double walled cabinet doors, side shelves all are robust in materials and design. The assembly was minimal, I had it together in 15 minutes. At first I thought the handle lamps and lighted panel were gimmick, but actually are very functional. At 70K BTU, this grill packs a mean punch. It zoomed up to 700'F in less than 10min, so cleaning this afterwards is a breeze. My first use were two 2lb chickens on the rotisserie; the S-670 performed gallantly. If I were to pick a weak spot, it would be the caster wheels; they are a bit on the light-duty side especially when compared with the rest of the grill. I suggest registering warranty by phone, the customer service rep will share with you use and care instructions not as obvious in the manual.

Weber 6740001 Genesis Gold B Propane, Stainless Steel Review

Weber 6740001 Genesis Gold B Propane, Stainless SteelI got lucky on my purchase of the 2005 Genesis Gold B. Apparently the store I purchased it at put Genesis Silver B barcodes on the Gold B boxes, so I ended up getting charged 499 instead of 599. The grill is worth every penny so far. It's a miser when it comes to gas, and it heats up to 550 degrees in about 5-10 minutes! That's amazingly fast. New to the 2005 models are the doors, and it's apparent, because they're my only complaint about the design of the unit. They just don't open and close perfectly. Also be warned that Weber Grills in 2005 no longer ship with a propane tank. You must have one or buy one seperately. I wish the burners were further apart for indirect cooking of large pieces of meat. I had a large rack of ribs, and the edges got charred while I had the middle burner turned off. Next time I'll use foil. Chalk that mistake up to not knowing better.

Make sure you have someone around when you're putting this grill together. Step 3 requires you to put the top onto the legs, and this requires 2 people. Other than that, I was able to quickly put everything together and was grilling within an hour of starting the project. I really wish Weber would start using words in their instructions rather than just try to convey all the instructions with pictures. But like I said, I was able to easily get everything put together. I also bought the appropriate grill cover from Amazon and it fits like a glove. Great investment.

I owned a Weber Baby Q while living in an apartment, and loved it to death. It's now relegated to beach trip duty while my new Genesis Gold B is the workhorse of the house. Good job Weber!

Char-Broil AT280 2-Burner 26,500 BTU Gas Grill Review

Char-Broil AT280 2-Burner 26,500 BTU Gas GrillI bought this grill elsewhere for 80 bucks and the only thing that I can say is that it is a great grill for 80 bucks. Assembly instructions were clear enough for me to follow and not make any mistakes. I do agree that it took a good chunk of time to put together, but for 80 dollars, what do you expect?

I understand the low star rating for the customer(s) that did not receive all of the parts for their grill (my grill came with all noted parts). What I can't understand is people complaining about a grill this cheap that does what it is supposed to do. If you don't want to assemble a grill (or if you can't read instructions), don't buy the grill online. Did you expect it to be assembled and delivered to your back porch? There are plenty of stores that you can go to and buy a pre-assembled grill. If your expecting the highest quality grill for 80 dollars, then you have another problem altogether.

This grill is perfect for my situation, as we live in a 2 bedroom condo on the second floor that only has a small patio/balcony. I was able to leave the left shelf off of the grill and it fits nice and flush against the corner wall. Although I have only grilled on it 3 times so far, it does a fairly good job and it is much better than using our old propane grill that sat on the floor. I would highly recommend this grill if you are looking for a smaller no frills grill that does its job well.

Broil King Model 94944 Crown 40 Liquid Propane 44,000 BTU Gas Grill with Side Burner Review

Broil King Model 94944 Crown 40 Liquid Propane 44,000 BTU Gas Grill with Side BurnerI was looking for a propane grill in the $400 range to replace a 15-year-old Weber Spirit and saw that Broil King received favorable ratings on About.com.

This product has a nice, even temperature across the whole cooking surface using Broil-King's Stainless Steel Super 8 burner -- it's basically a figure 8 with flame ports on the inside and outside edges. The flow valves turn very easily over a wide range of motion to provide excellent control over the flame and heat. The grill also includes the Flav-R-Wave bar which, like the vaporizer bars found in many other grills, burns off grill drippings for added flavor. The side trays fold down for easy storage (nice feature!).Assembly was almost too easy.

There were a few parts problems with the grill.Several slats on the cast-iron cooking grates were broken off (skimpy packaging) and the hood-mounted thermometer reads about 150 degrees even with the hood open on a cool day.A quick call to Broil-King's parts department and warranty replacements for both were on the way.

The left burner is a bit small and underpowered -- it's good for keeping sauces warm but doesn't provide enough space, say, for boiling up some corn in a pot. I would have also liked to see a fuel gauge included (I found a good inline gauge for $12 at a local big-box store).

All in all, it's a great grill for a great price and strongly recommend it.The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because of the packaging/parts problems.

Char-Broil 463271309 M580 Quantum 4-Burner Infrared Gas Grill Review

Char-Broil 463271309 M580 Quantum 4-Burner Infrared Gas GrillWell, I have owned the four burner Quantum for one year now. I purchased it at Lowes for $450.00It's held up well, however, some shock adjustment was necessary, especially after the first few rains that it survived. It's kept covered, so I was in shock to see that the grates completely rusted after about a month on non-use and a few rain storms. However, the rust was only superficial, and cleaned off easily. All of the other exterior stainless steel does indeed stain if not kept relatively clean. Also, keep in mind that the tops of the side work tables and the cabinet base are not stainless steel, just painted with silver paint. While those surfaces have not rusted, any grease splatter left on the paint will permanently stain it.The thermometer on the hood was immediately rendered mostly useless by overnight dew after one nice summer night that the grill was not covered up.It still registers the last 1/3rd of the scale, but it's stuck 2/3rds of the way.Much of the silkscreened black printing, especially the safety instructions,on the bullnose of the grill have started to wipe off. There is some slight pitting of the chrome handle mounts on the lid, but no actual rust.

Regarding the performance.I almost NEVER clean the grates. It performs well even with stuff on the perforated infrared panel.I normally just preheat the grill for about 15 to 20 minutes, and most of what ever was previously there turns to ash.It still sears steaks beautifully after one year.

I made sure to contact Char-Broil within the warranty period to get replacement parts for ALL of the grates, the thermometer, and the lid handle.I should have also asked for a bullnose with readable silkscreening. So far the gill has performed very well. With regular cleaning and maintenance, the original grates will probably not rust through if they are regularly used.If the grill is not regularly used, the grates, and firebox will quickly rust away, probably within three to four years. However, with replacement parts, this grill should be serviceable for at least five to seven years. And, it will probably look reasonably good after that time.

It's not a "high-end" multi thousand dollar Stainless Steel grill that will become a family heirloom. For the $450 that I paid, including the in-warranty replacement parts received, it should last a reasonable amount of time, while still having the clean appearance of a Stainless Steel grill! But most importantly, it really does perform just as well as the multi thousand dollar grills.I have used Viking, DCS, Dynasty, and Ducane grills and this Char-Broil can do anything they can, (but it reaches searing temperature much faster and with better results)!

Broil King Model 986574 Signet 70 Liquid Propane 44,000 BTU Gas Grill with Rear Rotisserie BurnerThis is our second Broil King grill! We bought a Broil King Imperial in 2004 and totally loved it!We just had to replace it because it was worn out and the weather was kinda taking its toll because we didn't cover it too much.We definitely knew we would buy another Broil King because they are such great grills.A lot of people may not like the looks of it because it is not all stainless steel but this thing can cook anything PERFECTLY!My husband just fixed some steak, cheese and cilantro quesadillas and they were the best quesadillas I ever had!I know that we will love using this grill because they are fantastic grills!Definitely recommend to anyone.Buy one of these instead of Weber's which are more expensive!

Minden Grill Company MMG1000 30,000-BTU Master Grill, Green Review

Minden Grill Company MMG1000 30,000-BTU Master Grill, GreenThis Minden Grill Company 30,000 BTU Master Grill has been working perfectly for me since day one.

I received the grill in after just a couple of days (with free shipping and no sales taxes).I spent about 3o minutes assembling it without the instructions (I was hungry and it looked simple). The grill looked great. The only problem was that I assembled one piece backwards so the hose would not connect properly.I had to rewind what I did and assembled it correctly (so follow those simple directions).Soon there after the Tuna steaks were cooking.

This quality grill has worked perfectly from then on out.It fires right up with the presto igniter. You can control three internal burners quickly get the temperature to the optimum temperature (temperature gauge works fine).

The grill is the right size for most families or get together, looks great (we went with the forest green) and is simple to work with.

I realize after it arrived that I had better then expected grill for the long haul so I came back to the site and upgraded to the bamboo cutting board (heck only $14), the side burner and a cover to keep this master grill looking good.

This grill is a solid value and I highly recommend it.

Minden Grill Company MMB1000 Master Propane Gas Grill, Black Review

Minden Grill Company MMB1000 Master Propane Gas Grill, BlackThis is a beautifully constructed grill made from heavy duty materials. I found it to be very elegant looking. Assembly was easy as all the major components are already assembled so it is just a matter of attaching the sub-assemblies. The fitted cover is heavy duty and superb.

I was disappointed with the performance, however. Despite having a smaller grill surface and lower hood than my old, cheap, Fiesta grill, which should equate to higher temperatures, the cooking times were longer on the Minden. Also the grill had very uneven temperatures. Three hamburgers, placed in a line, front to back, would all cook differently.

I live in Nevada and had wanted to support a local company. I called them and they said they'd inspect it to check whether or not it was operating properly. They did and said it was. I told them I was not happy with its performance and they arranged a full refund. So customer service is excellent.

I also did not like that there was practically no vertical lip at the back of the grill to back-stop hamburgers if you try to pick them up with a spatula (and need to slide them into something) and the control knobs do not have clock face hash marks to line up against to indicate amount of heat, rather an expanding arrow making it difficult to finely adjust the heat settings.

I would recommend getting one from a dealer with a liberal return policy but understand that it will be difficult to re-pack to return it if you have it shipped to you.

Broil King Model 986784 Signet 90 Liquid Propane 44,000 BTU Gas Grill with Side Burner and Rear Rotisserie Review

Broil King Model 986784 Signet 90 Liquid Propane 44,000 BTU Gas Grill with Side Burner and Rear RotisserieFinally ditched the Chinese grill (junk) for a North American made product. Broil Kings are made in Canada. I am very pleased with the product. I am a journeyman electrician who has spent his life assembling expensive products as well as repairing uber-expensive machine tools at Caterpillar. I know what quality is.

This model has a plastic base and mild steel frame that does a fine job. Plastic actually holds up very well in the midwest. This particular base is injection molded and heavy enough to do fine.

The upper side trays are stainless as are the doors and again are substantial enough to hold up well. The cook chamber is cast aluminum. Burners are stainless. Grill is cast iron (Chinese) and looks OK. The ignitor works fantastic. The gas valves are silky smooth and have click detents. Very nice. All the tubing was bent very well. Overall fit and finish is a 9 out of 10. Just a few minor points keep it from a 10.

I did not know how crappy my old grill was until I fired this baby up! Very hot, even heat. Did some chicken last night, excellent. Can't wait to use the included rotisserie. The side burner is plenty hot, used it for some asparagus.

I would highly recommend this grill. Very nice.

Minden Grill Company MMR1000 30,000-BTU Master Grill, Red Review

Minden Grill Company MMR1000 30,000-BTU Master Grill, RedI received the product with the incorrect item inside the box.I ordered a red grill but there was a green one inside the box.The outside of the box indicated the item inside should be red, so this was obviously a packaging problem somewhere.I had little time for the exchange as I had ordered the grill for an upcoming party. When I called Amazon to discuss the issue, at first the customer service rep said that they could just ship out a replacement for us with quick delivery( I don;t remember if it was next day or 2 day delivery but it was a short period). Then she said no she could not do that because Amazon no longer stocks this product.Later the product manufacturer told me they just sent a huge shipment to Amazon for this product when I called about a question on the setup. When I asked the Amazon Customer Service Rep whether Amazon could arrange a shipment from one of the other online vendors that it advterises this product for on Amazon which indicated they had the item in stock, she said no.I had to explain myself several times before she understood my request. When it finally came down to it, she said they could make those arrangements but that she could not guarantee next day delivery...even though she never even contacted one of those vendors to ask if it was possible...Then she told me we would have to pay extra charges if we wanted the correction made with a quick shipment.I finally ran out of time to deal with the person on the phone and the incorrect item and decided to keep it.It was a very frustrating 30-45 minutes of my time with the customer service person who was a very bad listener, kept interrupting me and talking over me and was not willing to attempt to look for creative solutions to the problem.Putting the grill together was a moderately sized task.It was designed for everything to fit together precisely and if there are any deviations in the alignment or if the product is slightly bent in spots, as mine was, you have to try to bend the parts or redrill bigger holes... All in all it took about an hour and were unable to get at least one of the screws into the product ...The final product is great though. We use the grill at least 3 days a week and love it.It heats up very well and fast and it looks great.I would suggest one enhancement to the product, if the left and right 'side tables' could collapse down to the sides or tuck into the back somehow, it would be ideal for making it less obtrusive in smaller spaces like ours.

Broil King Model 94947 Crown 40 Natural Gas 44,000 BTU Gas Grill with Side Burner Review

Broil King Model 94947 Crown 40 Natural Gas 44,000 BTU Gas Grill with Side BurnerI'm no grill expert and this was my first new grill purchase.I needed natural gas connection at an affordable price, so I went with the BK Crown 40. Some notes: Even though it's natural gas the area behind the doors is still designed to hold a LP tank. Why? That should have been transformed into a usable storage area. The hardward used to put together the grill is fairly cheap in my opinion. The main grilling area is pretty good quality, the burner, the cast iron grills, the top. Lesser quality: the doors, the base, wheels, storage cabinet, hardware. It's almost impossible to find a cheaper nat gas grill with a side burner, so maybe it's still a good deal for the price, but they could of really improved this grill for an extra $15 in parts.
