Weber Q 120 Gas Grill Review

This BBQ grill is quality. It's sturdy and feels like it's going to stick around for a while.

The Weber Q has several nice features: The trays fold up into the grill and have built-in utensil storage. The grate is designed so that grease will drip around, but never on, the burner underneath.

I've hosted two cookouts and I've received several compliments on my Weber Q. The food has always been tasty and you definitely get some good grill marks.

Clean-up is pretty straightforward. Out in the field, I usually give the cooking grate a good scrubbing with a brass brush to get the chunks off. Then after it has cooled, I remove the grate and wipe the inside surface with paper towels. All the crud gets brushed into the drip pan.

Some tips:
- If you use a regular 20 lb. liquid propane (LP) cylinder at home for other grills, then I recommend purchasing the tank adapter hose for the Weber Q. Propane tanks are much cheaper than propane bottles.
- This grill does not use the regular green propane bottles that you commonly associate with portable grills. Instead, it uses the slender blue propane bottles commonly used with torches.
- Follow the cleaning instructions: Don't use harsh cleaners such as oven cleaners. Don't use harsh scouring pads. And don't go overboard with the scraper. (I chipped a little of the coating off an edge of the grate while scraping.) For a thorough cleaning at home, use dishwashing detergent and a brush with plastic bristles and you'll be fine.

Florida Gators Portable Picnic Table Review

I needed a fold up table for Giants game tailgating.I was able remove the Gators sticker easily.Unfortunately on the first cold game of the year the seat cracked as soon as someone sat down. I have a similar table I use for Jets games which is constructed of slightly heavier material which has help up without failure for close to 10 years.This one won't last nearly that long.

Vortex Tabletop Charcoal Grill Review

I bought this at a grocery store while on vacation. I thought it would be better than the other small, cheap grills they had. Wrong...

First off, airflow is everything when you're grilling with charcoal. This grill has inferior airflow, with only one vent on the bottom and one on the lid, with the vent on the lid being the only way to control airflow. It needs at least two vents to get enough air to the fire, but that wouldn't be enough to save this grill.

Second, The metal on this grill is way too thin. I went to latch down the lid. The baked-on porcelain flaked right off and the metal under the latches bent.

And I still don't know where the "vortex" part comes in. I would suggest you spend your money on the Weber Smokey Joe charcoal grill, which is one dollar less at a certain Arkansas-based national retailer, and will last for years (and you'll be supporting Weber, a great American company, in the process.)

Zippo 121361 MPL Multi-Purpose Lighter, Black Review

I use lighting devices like this every day to light candles at our bed & breakfast establishment.I was excited when I saw that Zippo had put one on the market because I was aware of Zippo's reputation for elegantly designed, reliable lighters.I have been disappointed to discover that although the thing looks pretty and appears to be well-made, it is clumsy and awkward to operate.The safety button is in the wrong place to be comfortably depressed while striking the lighter.Compared to other devices of this type, the Zippo does not have much distance between the flame and your hand making it difficult to light wicks that are down inside jar-type candles.Also, the fuel-level indicator is nearly impossible to see making it difficult to know when the thing needs re-filling.I am much happier with way cheaper such devices that are more versatile, user-friendly, and ergonomically designed.

Son of Hibachi Combo with Snuff out Pouch Review

I bought this grill because it looked like it had it all, and I must say it really lived up to the expectations. Living in Sweden we have a fairly short summer that really makes you want to be out as often as you can. For me happiness lives in the ability to barbecue. Disposable grills is something that is big here, unfortunately its not very environmentally friendly or very good. So far the Son of Hibachi has been able to replace them with style.

The product description is pretty much on the money. Start-up is easy and fast, I would say the 10 minute mark can swing up and down a little depending on what coals you use. Lump coal is faster, briquettes a little slower - but if you can normally light your coals with fire starters, be it liquids or other you will have no problem here. The chimney effect of the closed up grill is noticeable and works as a charm.

When you notice the top coals are lit, peeking down from the top, you fold it open and the top handles become legs for the grill sides to rest upon. What strikes you at first is the intense heat wave created by the two surfaces - it is hot! Fortunately you can adjust the grilles in four levels to reduce some of that intense first heat.

We have tried cooking some different things now from hot dogs to chicken breasts to hamburgers and so far it has all worked out very well. The heavy duty grilles leave some nice black patterns on the cooking surface, just the way I think it should be.
The whole construction breathes sturdy, everything has that robust feel about it - all packed with coals it weighs in on about 16 pounds (7.5 kilo) which is a little heavy but knowing that nothing about this grill spells flimsy I accept that.

Another real good thing about this combo is the Snuff-out-pouch which really elevates this purchase. Once done grilling you close up the grill again and let that chimney effect clean of your grilles. Then smoking hot you put it down in your fire retardant pouch and zip it up - in litterally less than 10 seconds you are ready to go. Sure the bag heats up a little but considering the heat of the grill its nothing. The instructions state to leave it for at least 30 minutes before putting it in your trunk - an obvious protection against lawsuits. We have found this to be, in our case, unnecessary. As long as it stands up it's not going to damage anything. The bag can let out some smoke initially when packed but this settles pretty fast once oxygen depravation in the bag sets in.

My only gripe about Amazons product description is that the grill ships with a "Grill N Fry cast iron griddle for cooking eggs, pancakes, etc." which is only half true. Part of the grille has a flat surface true, but I don't see how it would be enough for a pancake an egg id probably fine. Luckily you can get a complete frying surface as an accessory if you look around online for a little bit.

All in all this is a marvelous little bbq which is well worth its pretty low price tag (in my opinion). Highly recommended for the excursion barbecuer.

EDIT: I would like to clarify one thing with the snuff-out pouch. I did actually manage to burn a backpack slightly I had crammed against the side of the pouch in my trunk. The sides of the pouch does get very hot after packing so I would avoid putting anything against it for a while. THe front and back however never gets very hot.

Char-Broil 4651330 Tabletop Grill Review

I've had this BBQ for over 3 years and use it almost every week to drag it to beaches, camping etc. It's very portable and gets the job done. I've cooked chicken, pork, hotlinks, corn and just about anything you can think of on it just fine.

It does go out on occasion when it's very windy, but you just light it back up. There's one trick that I find helps a lot, I wrap the grille in special BBQ aluminum foil (that has holes in it). It seems to make the grill more efficient -- and also, I've never cleaned it since I just put new aluminum foil every time I use it.

I love this grill and have recommended it to many friends -- it's cheap and has a perfect form factor. You can even put your gas tank, tongs, lighter and other accessories into the grill while you're carrying it to the beach -- awesome!

Cobb Premier Portable Stainless Steel Grill & Smoker Review

I've had mine for about a month now, and have done 3 chickens, 2 tri-tip roasts and a DOUBLE rack of Baby-backs... and am gearing up to try baking/smoking a pile of shortribs soon.

So far, I have only used the roasting rack to cook with...wet mesquite chips wrapped in heavy alum. foil in the firebasket smoke the meat nicely, just perfect.Surprised compliments from everyone who've tasted the results. Chicken, in 1 1/2 to 2 hours, comes out so tender you'll wonder if it's really done (it is). The Babybacks smoked up wonderful and were as tender as you'd want.

I'm a tri-tip guy, and all my friends step back in respect when I approach a grill with a Tri-tip in hand. I'm good at it.This Cobb Grill makes the best I've ever had.

Pro's:

*Convenient for apartments, small patios, any lifestyle or condition when you want the BBQ to come out and go back to stashed away. It is small, compact, all the accoutrements fit comfortably into the carrying case, even the extra accessories you might buy.Speaking of which, search the internet for the cheapest roasting rack...some will sell this wire rack for $39...it's about an $6 item, but if you can find one for $15, get one.You'll use it for roasting and allows you to NOT need to turn over the ribs, chicken, etc. during the cooking process.It's probably the most convenient of all the accessories.

*Easy setup, easy stash. Minimal fuel (10-12 briquettes).

*A moat! You can add water, soda, beer,etc., in the built-in moat and you get results like doing a Beer-can chicken. Most moist and great taste for everything. Results are great.

*Easy to smoke meats.Add your wet chips to the firebowl when you put on the meat.I've been using about 2 tablespoons of chips for a nice amount of smoke flavor.

*Both portable and movable. Not only is this little thing really portable, it can be moved anytime during the grilling by just picking it up with your bare hands.Its sides are cool. It's halfway to 'Kid-Friendly' and is a pretty safe grill to have around kids.The dome is hot, but the sides are not. This is especially handy if you want to shuffle ribs or flip some meat halfway thru cooking...I just pick it up and carry it to the kitchen where I can flip things without making a mess...then I take it outside again.Very handy!

*Set it and Ferget it. The nice thing is that you don't have to bother with the grill while its cooking.Go party.Relax.All you need is a timer to figure out when its all done. Because you are using a moat and liquid (if you do) it's hard to over-cook anything.

I haven't tried doing a plain steak yet, or hamburgers, without the lid...that's next week's project.

Cons:Expensive.I bought mine on sale for $85 and was lucky to get it at that.The accessories are expensive. The wok, the frying pan are well designed and might be worth the loot, but the roasting rack is just a wire grid who's legs happen to fit into the ring-holes of the included grill plate.At the mfg. cost of the wire rack, they should be throwing this thing in for free.Once you get your unit home, you can look for workable racks in thrift shops.

You can still find the earlier models, with the black plastic sides, available at a steep discount, around $50.These would be worth getting to save money. The new models are the ones with the stainless mesh sides.

*Cleaning.If you throw some sliced lemons in the moat-water, cleanup will be easier.The thing should to be cleaned after each use, which could be problematic for RV'rs.The quality non-stick grill surfaces are no problem, but the wire racks and the main steel bowl can need lotsa water or some soaking. You can rough clean it with paper towels and finish it at home, if you're off camping. Dawn Direct Foam works really well.

*Slow cooking, lower heat.Because it uses lower heat for a longer time, figure that it's going to be 2 hours for a chicken or a tri-tip, 2 1/2 hours for ribs unless you want to refill the firebox and go for 4 hours. That includes the 1/2 hour for the coals to get right.*Charcoal starter matches make things easier, so when you find them for sale, buy several boxes.The matches found on the Cobb site are overpriced. They run about $2.50 a box in grocery stores, and there are two kinds, the giant ones and the smaller ones.8 to the box and 20 to the box, respectively. 2 big ones do it, or 4 small ones will light your charcoal just fine. DON'T leave the dome on while the charcoal is flaming/lighting, you'll start to melt the top handle (my stupid). Leave the dome off to speed the charcoal lighting.

All in all, I think this is an ideal charcoal grill that almost guarantees you'll wow yourself, your family and friends with the incredible results. It's slightly different cooking than the normal charcoal BBQ grill, so you'll learn to make your cooking adjustments...and you'll love the results. I would (and do) recommend this little baby to anyone who'll listen. My friends all recommend my using this as often as they can talk me into it.
7/17/2010..........And now I've had it for awhile...just got back in town after being on the road for a bit....the first thing I did when I 'unhitched' was to fire up the Cobb and slam a Tri Tip on it.I'm still using it, still loving it, it's still in great shape, and still does a great job.My favorite seasoning is still Santa Maria Tri Tip Seasoning by Righetti Specialties, and a healthy dose of Bacon Salt never hurts nothing!Love this grill.

Elizabeth Karmel's Grill Friends Bamboo Pizza Peel with Folding Handle Review

Very disappointed with this product. Did not look new and is of poor quality. Is awkward to handle and not well-balanced. The screw was not as pictured; it is a big knob that is frustratingly difficult to turn. I thought the handle would swivel to fold; it does not. You have to remove the screw completely, remove the handle, and then place two wooden pegs into two holes, and then put the screw back in.

Maverick Redi Fork Barbeque Thermometer Review

This is a great tool for the grill.It is the easiest one to use I have found.The readout is a grid which tells you how done any piece of meat is based on the temp - this allows you to check different things on the grill (i.e. chicken and beef) without having to reprogram the fork.The only better one I have seen is by the same company, and is basically the same except it includes a light.

Weber 396002 Q 200 Portable Gas Grill Review

I am writing this long term review because as so many reviews are just initial impressions when the product is new.They are hard to find, but some people will write a review later in the product's life cycle, especially if they have had problems.This is not one of those "problem" reviews.The Weber Q is my all time favorite grill.

Background Info:

I bought my "Q" back in 2004 when they first came out; there were only two models at the time, the Q and the Baby Q.The overall design theory and execution of a portable gas grill was amazing in my eyes - like nothing I had ever seen before.I was in the market for a gas grill, and the portable nature yet still nice enough to grill on a daily basis design sold me instantly.I had used my dad's Weber gas grill since he bought it new in the mid 90's (comparable to today's Genesis models) and was impressed in every aspect, especially the longevity and quality of the components compared to "big box store" look-a-like grills.The price for a standalone Weber, like my dad's, was too high in my opinion, and I wanted more for my money.The Q's dual nature fit the bill perfectly.In addition to the Q, I bought about every accessory available at the time:rolling cart, Weber Q specific tools, cover, hose for external LP tank, etc.Every accessory followed right in line with the Q's portable design intent. The grill holds a surprisingly large amount of food.I can grill for the whole family or more with no problems, (This totally depends on what you are grilling).I have grilled everything from the ubiquitous burgers, dogs, and brats to fajita meat and vegetables to corn on the cob and steaks.I can even fit 2-3 whole racks of ribs on the Q.Heating is surprisingly even with the rectangular shaped burner (which is stainless steel and after 4 seasons is showing zero signs of wear, corrosion, etc.).The heavy, thick cast iron grate should get most of the credit for the even heating.I really like the wide bars and tight spacing of the grate; I can grill sliced veggies and meats as if I were cooking on a skillet with no fear of them falling though.Temperature control is ultra easy with the single burner knob.I have taken the Q tailgating at sporting events, to picnics at the park, to friends' parties, etc. and it has performed flawlessly.It offers tons of cooking room for the size and minimal effort to bring along with the clever design of the grill and accessories.People are always amazed when they watch me unpack/pack the Q.Other than an occasional and end of season cleaning, this thing is maintenance free.Just brush off the grate, check the drip pan, and clean out the burned drippings in the bottom from time to time.

Final Thoughts:

Looking back at my Q experience, I wouldn't have it any other way. In fact, I can't imagine owning any other gas grill - except another Q.If the day comes when I have to replace my beloved Q, I would probably stick with the original size, the 200 series; it is the perfect balance.The 300 series looks nice with the bigger size and extra burner, but I don't necessarily need the size and I feel it loses some of the portable utility that makes the original Q so great.

Weber 386002 Q 100 Portable Gas Grill Review

I've been using a Q100 / Baby Q for over 2 years now, and am still impressed by the quality of the product and what I'm able to do with it given it's small size. Here's the set up:

Q100 Grill
Weber Cart
Bulk tank adapter
5-lb. propane tank

The grill surface is large enough for a family of four. Six 1/3 lb. burgers fit well enough; more and they are hard to turn. I've also been able to do two average sized tri-tips at once. The lid isn't tall enough to allow a whole chicken. I was a bit wary of the 8K BTU rating at first, but the grill heats up just fine- it will do a wonderful sear on pretty much anything after 7-10 minutes of preheat. The heat is also very even, with the virtually whole grill surface usable. The best thing about the small burner is fuel efficiency; 5 lbs. of propane lasts all season (in SoCal!) at 1-2 uses per week. Please note that this is a single burner grill with a ring-shaped burner. Indirect cooking isn't really possible although on low heat, one can get close enough to do justice to a tri-tip.

I've only got a couple of small complaints... First, the support ring for the portable tank (at least with the Baby Q) only accepted 14 oz. propane bottles- the kind used with plumber's torches. They are more expensive than the 16 oz. bottles used for camping. I just made my own 16 oz. bottle ring out of a heavy coat hanger. Of course with the bulk tank, this is a non-issue. The 5 lb. tank (from Home Depot) is pretty small. Second, the grill is somewhat sensitive to wind. A good breeze blowing through the sides causes a definite loss of temperature above the grill surface, under the lid. Cooking is still possible but times go up about 30-40%. Last, the holes in the burner can get clogged up, especially when there's a lot of liquid pouring off the grill surface. I've had to 'unclog' parts of the burner with a push-pin a couple of times now.

Anyway, I love the product as it's about 75% of a full-size grill at 1/3 the size and 1/4 the price, within its limits (grill area). I think the only thing I'd do differently is get the version with the side tables (Q120).

Weber 1520 Propane Gas Go-Anywhere Grill Review

I bought one of these things ten years ago and despite twice replacing it with big, traditional-looking (and very expensive) grills I keep coming back to this one.In fact, when we bought our latest one at a localfireplace/grill store, the owner just couldn't stop talking about thischeap little grill.He confided to me in a low voice that if I were tolift the lid of his own $2500 home gas barbecue, I'd find this little gemsitting inside because it's all he uses too.
Why?It's not ease ofcleaning or durability or any of that stuff (they rust out after a fewyears sitting on the porch).And you'd better buy a big propane bottlewith an adapter hose if you don't want to those little gas cylinders tosuddenly empty out on you mid-meal while you're cooking for guests...No,the reason I adore this is that it just plain grills better than anythingelse on the market - and we've tried a lot of them.
My wife, the culinaryschool grad, thinks it's the "flavorizer" that does it (the metalpan that replaces those awful lava rocks).When we grill salmon we justcover that metal pan with alderwood chips and let the smoke penetrate thefish while it grills with the lid on tight - flat out beating everyrestaurant or neighborbood grilled fish ever made.Friends of mine simplywon't cook salmon for us.
Even though we virtually never clean the thing,it simply does the best job flavor-wise of all our grills.If you crank itup to high for 10 minutes, then grill with the top closed (never open) youget very consistent heat which is the secret to good grilling.
Somecookbook author who writes barbecue books constantly repeats the phrase"Know Your Fire" like a mantra.This fire is 100% consistent,heats up in minutes (again, no lava rocks to soak up heat) and producessuperb results for us.If you know your fire, this is the fire to know.
